Dr. Vanessa Ngakeng; April 1975-December 2020

Mother, Wife, Friend, ACPA Board member, Vice-President ACPA Atlanta, Passionate, community advocate, dedicated, selfless leader, and an accomplished Ophthalmologist  all describe Dr. Vanessa Ngakeng who has left her imprints on us all during the time she spent with us building this organization.

She was passionate about membership improvements, participated in efforts to improve ACPA and was always present whenever someone was needed to move forward the organization.

She exhibited the same zeal in the multiple other organizations and groups she belonged too and is leaving behind a legacy worth emulating.

A graduate of The Geffen School of medicine at UCLA/Charles R, Drew University, she completed a prestigious Cornea/refractive Fellowship at Corneal Consultants of Indiana/Price Mission group after Residency in ophthalmology from Howard University College of medicine. She was practicing with NMA ophthalmology at the time of her death and an active member, moderator and speaker of the Atlanta Medical Association, Women in Ophthalmology, Atlanta Ophthalmology Society and Howard University College of medicine. She also participated in Emory University’s students zoom mentorship program as well as precepting medical students.

Having initially survived breast cancer in 2015, she suffered a re-occurrence in December 2020 which ultimately lead to her death. She is survived by her husband, daughter, son and our ACPA family amongst other families and friends who had come to cherish her.

ACPA is forever indebted to this wonderful, cheerful and dedicated colleague and partner and will strive to maintain her legacy.
